The President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, accompanied by members of the association, paid a working visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on 8 September 2025. The visit provided an opportunity to brief the IGP on DEPOWA’s “Thank You to Our Troops” national campaign.

Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa noted that that the Nigerian Police is a visible symbol of state authority and stability in Nigeria and the gallantry of brave police personnel are often overlooked while the Police contributions to Nigeria and international peace keeping contributions are commendable. The “Thank you to our troops campaign” is an initiative to appreciate the sacrifices of the security forces.

She added that “The 12-month initiative is designed to honour the sacrifices and courage of the Armed Forces and Police through grassroots mobilization, media campaigns, billboards, school programs, and solidarity visits such as this”. While seeking the endorsement and collaboration of the IGP to extend the campaign to all Police formations across the federation.

The President DEPOWA emphasized that the movement seeks to build a culture of gratitude that connects citizens directly with the men and women who safeguard them daily. She also informed the IGP about the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy in Abuja, envisioned as a National Reference College dedicated to qualified children of fallen Heroes.

Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa informed the IGP about the upcoming DEPOWA inter- secondary school sports competition later in the month.

In his response, the Inspector General of Police commended DEPOWA for initiating the campaign, describing it as a powerful reminder that security institutions are not adversaries but the shield and backbone of society, he reaffirmed that despite unfair criticisms and false narratives, the Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its duty to secure the nation, preserve public order, and safeguard democracy. The IGP added that with partners like DEPOWA and the prayers and support of women, officers are further emboldened to serve with courage, integrity, and honour, noting that such encouragement is the unseen backbone of national security.

Highlights of the visit included the presentation of a commemorative plaque, exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs.
