The President Defence and Police Officers Wives Association was a distinguished guest at the NAFOWA Mental Awareness Walk and Talk in commemoration of Nigeria Airforce at 60.The event was held at the NAF Valley base, Asokoro, Abuja on Saturday, 18th May 2024.
The Special Guest of Honour (SGOH), for the event was the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON, was represented by the wife of the Minister of State for Defence, Hajiya Aisha Bello Matawalle; the Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye represented by Dr Fatima Abdullahi; the President Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs Mariya Abiodun Lagbaja, Vice President Naval Officers’ Wives Association(NOWA) Mrs Zainab Akpan,Chief host, President Nigerian Airforce Officers’ Wives Association(NAFOWA), Architect Mrs Rakiya Abubakar;the President Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun; the President Civil Defence Officers Wives Association (CVDOWA) Mrs Chinenye Ogbechi; Wives of retired officers, Members of DEPOWA, NAOWA, NOWA, NAFOWA and POWA.
The President NAFOWA, in her remarks, stated that the event was an avenue to start conversations about mental health and ways to rally support for those who are struggling with mental issues.
The resource person, Dr Mrs Modupe Arinola Ogunshina gave an elaborate discuss on mental health stating that mental wellness can be improved through exercising, engaging in hobbies, improving diets, having enough sleep/rest,a positive social life and spiritual life.
Hajia Aisha Bello Matawalle, the representative of the SGOH in her remarks congratulated the Nigerian Air Force on attaining 60 years of service and dedication to protecting our skies and ensuring national security. She particularly
felicitated with NAFOWA, for serving as a pillar of strength for Air-Force families and championing the well-being of spouses and communities, noting that the theme “Step by Step: Embracing Mental Wellness through
Movement ” is timely as it is a potent tool for mental well-being, which makes us not just healthier individuals but better
wives, mothers, and role models for our children”
