
The Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) held the fundraising and groundbreaking ceremony of the proposed DEPOWA College on 8 April 2025.
Delivering her opening remark, the President DEPOWA Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa stated that the association was determined to use education to empower children and young people to become active participants in society, equipped with the values and skills necessary to create a better future.
She added that the project was a direct intervention in support of the non-kinetic operations of the defence and services headquarters. Mrs Musa further stated that DEPOWA has, over the years been involved in many humanitarian services including human development skills, training, personal development seminars, health and fitness events, scholarship and free medical/awareness checks.
She added that the main beneficiaries of its initiative are widows and orphans of deceased military and police personnel.
Mrs Eniola Ekubi, Head of DEPOWA Education Committee, said the decision to establish the school was not because there were no schools but because of the need to provide a functional education for children. The Chief Launcher during the event Alhaji Dahiru Mangal who was represented by Honourable Inuwa Baba applauded the DEPOWA vision of building a state of the art college and encouraged all the co-launchers, invited guest to donate generously for the success of the project.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the Honourable Minister of Defence His Excellency Muhammad Badaru Abubakar CON mni, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR, Her Excellency Hajiya Maryam Abacha, former service chiefs ,representatives of former governors, ministers among other invited guest.
