
The President of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa and members attended the 2025 National Children’s Day commemoration at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs (FMWA) on 26 May2025. The event’s theme, “Speak up, Stand up, Building a Bullying-free Generation,” highlighted the importance of promoting a safe and supportive environment for children.
Mrs. Musa warmly congratulated the children on Children’s Day, wishing them a day filled with boundless love, unbridled joy, and contagious laughter. She encouraged them to be confident and speak up when necessary, reminding them that their voices matter and can make a difference. She reassured them that their parents’ guidance and decisions are always made with their best interests in mind, aiming to nurture and protect them.
Mrs. Musa also expressed her unwavering commitment to support children in every way possible by serving as a source of inspiration and guidance as they grow and develop. She urged the children to believe in themselves, embrace their unique talents, and strive to reach their full potential as they are the future leaders and change-makers.
The Honorable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, delivered a compelling speech, emphasizing the importance of the theme “Speak up, Stand up, Building a Bullying-free Generation.” She highlighted the urgent need to address bullying, which poses a significant threat to children’s development, mental health, and safety. Reminding the audience of the constitutional guarantees and laws, such as the Child Rights Act, she stressed the importance of protecting children from violence. The Minister urged schools to report incidents through the National Policy on Safety and Security to create safe learning environments.
Acknowledging the persistence of systematic bullying, Hajiya Imaan emphasized the need for proactive measures to promote a culture of safety, respect, and empathy. By working together, she believes it’s possible to build a bully free generation, enabling children to thrive.
The event featured engaging interactions with the Children’s Parliament/Press, providing a platform for young voices to be heard. A group photograph was also taken, capturing the memorable moment and emphasizing the importance of unity and collective action in promoting a bullying-free generation.
