 PRESIDENT DEPOWA FLAG OFF THANK YOU TO OUR TROOPS CAMPAIGN ON HER TWO DAYS WORKING VISIT TO MAIDUGURI

The President of the Defense and Police Officers Wives Association on Monday 11 August 2025, visited Maiduguri, Bornu state to flag off the thank you to our troops campaign. An initiative aimed to appreciate the soldiers who are at the front line in the battle field while the rest of the nation goes to sleep.

Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa and her delegation upon arrival at Bornu state paid a courtesy visit to the Governor, His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum CON mni. She thanked His Excellency for his unwavering support to the Armed Forces, police personnel, and families of fallen heroes. Mrs Musa further briefed the governor on the association’s new initiative, the “Thank You To Our Troops” campaign.

In her remarks, the President DEPOWA noted that the association’s new initiative, “Thank You to our Troops” campaign is a nationwide movement which seeks to honour the sacrifices of troops, the fallen heroes, support the wounded-in-action, and assist the families of deceased officers.

Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa noted that the campaign is a means to tell our soldiers that their courage is seen, their service is valued, and their sacrifices will never be forgotten.”

The President DEPOWA informed the Governor that the campaign is starting in Borno State because it is the heart of the fight, and His Excellency’s leadership stands as a symbol of resilience. She further stated that over the next 12 months, the campaign will span all 36 states and the FCT, combining public engagements in schools, media blitzes, billboards, documentaries, grassroots mobilization, and direct visits to troops in the field.

Mrs Musa emphasized that the campaign was borne out of her recent visit to some of our wounded soldiers and serving troops whose bodies now carry the marks of this struggle. She saw the scars where bullets tore through flesh, the missing limbs that once carried them into battle, and the haunted eyes of young men who have watched their comrades fall in battle.

“I saw pain, yes — but also pride. I heard not complaints, but determination to return to duty if given the chance. It is these men, these heroes, who inspire the campaign we are here in Maiduguri to flag off tagged ‘Thank You to Our Troops’.

Responding, the Borno State Governor welcomed the initiative and pledged to support the initiative and stated that his doors are open to partner with DEPOWA to make the initiative a reality. Governor Zulum further appreciated the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, the Theatre Commander, and troops for their dedication to duty.

Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa also paid a courtesy visit to the Theartre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, Major General AE Abubakar to inform him of the flag off on the thank you to our troops campaign while briefing his on the aim of the Campaign.

The Theartre Commander in his response welcomed and appreciated the President DEPOWA for her outstanding initiatives and activities geared towards strengthening the families of the Armed Forces and Police. The Theartre Commander pledged his unwavering support to the President DEPOWA.

The Theartre Commander, Major General AE Abubakar, the GOC 7 Division, Brigadier General UV Unachukwu, the wife of the Theatre Commander, Mrs Fibishola Abubakar and other principal officers accompanied the President DEPOWA and her entourage to visit the sick and wounded in action at 7 Division Medical Hospital and services, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

President DEPOWA also held a press conference where she informed the media of plans to execute the ” Thank you to our troops ” campaign. She stated that” this is more than a campaign – it is a movement to bridge the gap between civilians and the military and to engrave the spirit of gratitude in our national consciousness. To our serving men and women: know that Nigeria is proud of you. We are telling your story to the world – not as a story of conflict ,but as a story of courage, resilience, and patriotism. You are the strength behind our freedom. “
