As part of activities for the ongoing 42nd ordinary meeting of the ECOWAS committee of the chiefs of Defence staff, from 7-9 August 2024, holding at the Defence Headquarters Abuja. The Chief of Defence Staff Nigeria General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR organised a dinner on the 8th of August 2024 at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess. The Special Guest of Honour was the Minister of State for Defence Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle MON.
The high-level event brought together top military leaders from across West Africa, dignitaries, and key stakeholders in the defence sector. The dinner served as a formal conclusion to the crucial discussions that took place during the ECOWAS meeting, which focused on addressing the pressing security challenges facing the region.
In his address at the dinner, Dr. Matawalle commended the Chiefs of Defence Staff for their unwavering commitment to ensuring peace and stability within the ECOWAS region. He highlighted the significance of regional cooperation and the need for sustained efforts to combat the rising threats of terrorism, insurgency, and unconstitutional changes of government that have plagued several member states.
Earlier in his welcome remark, the Chief of Defence Staff Nigeria, General Christopher Gwabin Musa stated that the event marks a significant moment in efforts towards regional security and cooperation within the ECOWAS committee and appreciated the Minister of State for Defence who has shown unwavering commitment to the Defence and security of the region.
