PRESIDENT DEPOWA HOSTS MONTHLY WALK FOR HEALTH

The President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, on Saturday, 13 September 2025, hosted the Association’s monthly Walk for Health at Mogadishu Cantonment.

In her remarks, Mrs. Musa urged members to remain committed to healthy living and expressed delight at their return after the August break, when many travelled to reunite with their families. She described the walk as a pledge to healthier living, stressing that “a pledge is a promise,” and encouraged participants to remain consistent in keeping fit, active, and maintaining clean surroundings.

She highlighted the benefits of walking and exercising as essential to long life and overall wellbeing, while emphasizing that wellness must be a daily habit rather than an occasional activity. She also reassured members that DEPOWA would continue to provide platforms that promote fitness, wellness, and hygiene across military families.

The session also featured a health talk on heart health, where participants were reminded that heart disease remains a leading cause of death among women globally. Risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, stress, and physical inactivity were highlighted, with experts noting that women often experience different symptoms from men, including fatigue, dizziness, and back or jaw pain. Members were encouraged to eat balanced meals with more vegetables, reduce salt, sugar, and processed foods, exercise regularly, drink more water, avoid smoking, schedule routine medical check-ups, and adhere strictly to prescribed medications.

Highlights of the event included the health talk, interactive fitness activities, and group photographs.
